Union Constitutional Tribunal Member attends international paper-reading session in Seoul

   AT the invitation of President Mr Namseok Yoo of the Constitutional Court of Korea, a delegation led by U Kyaw Min, a member of the Constitutional Tribunal of the Union, joined the fourth international paper-reading session with the title of Access to Justice: Constitutional Perspectives in Seoul of the Republic of Korea from 29 May to 1 June. At the paper-reading session, the member of the Constitutional Tribunal of the Union read his paper with the title of Constitutional Rights Ensuring Access to Justice, saying that the preamble of the Constitution (2008) mentions that we, the National people, firmly resolve that we shall stalwartly strive for further burgeoning the eternal principles namely justice, liberty, equality and perpetuation of peace and prosperity of the National people. The Constitution clearly expresses equal rights in legal affairs and legal protection shall be granted for the people. Fundamental rights for the citizens are described in Chapter VIII of the Constitution. If people suffer a violation of these rights, they have a chance to apply for the Supreme Court of the Union with the writ. Moreover, the basic principles of the Union are mentioned in Chapter I of the Constitution, he explained. Chairmen, chief justices and legal experts from 16 countries among the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions: AACC and those from invited countries exchanged views on justice and fairness among AACC countries based on legal outlooks and judicial experiences of the Constitutional Tribunals. The member of the Constitutional Tribunal of the Union was accompanied by Assistant Director Dr May Hsu Hlaing.
