  A DELEGATION headed by U Myo Nyunt, Chairperson of the Constitutional Tribunal of Myanmar, attended an International Conference in commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of the Constitutional Court of Korea,which held a discussion under the theme of “Constitutional Justice and Democracy” in Seoul, Republic of Korea from 2 to 5 September.

  Attending the conference alongside Myanmar and Korea were constitutional tribunals and courts from 36 other countries including Croatia, Spain, Portugal, Viet Nam, Bulgaria, Malaysia, Turkey, Thailand, Ukraine, Russia Federation, Romania, United States, Indonesia, Egypt, etc., councils, high courts, high-ranking officials from the Europe Venice Commission and the Constitutional Drafting Free Commission, Chief Justices, Deputy Officials, Judges and magistrates, Secretaries General, and Professors from various Korean universities.

  During the conference, the Constitutional Tribunal of Myanmar read a paper titled ‘Myanmar’s Past and Present Constitutional Judgements’. The paper discussed Myanmar’s 1947, 1974 and 2008 Constitutions,the constitutional judgements associated with them, as well as their handovers, insights, judgements on proposals and other related facts. The conference also saw officials from the attending countries engaging in discussionsthat were divided into four parts-- namely, ‘Past and Present Constitutional Judgments’, ‘Constitutional Judgements on the Legislative Body and Elections’, Constitutional Judgements on Protection of Human Rights’, and ‘Challenges of the 21st Century’.

  The Constitutional Tribunal of Myanmar is working together with the Association of Asia Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions (AACC) and other international Constitutional Courts and equivalent institutions concerning the administration of constitutional justice.
